Early 19th century Engraving of Roman Sculpture contemporary This is a 1983 exhibitionThis stunning 19th century engraving by Jean Jacques Avril, after a drawing by Jean Pierre Granger, portrays a Roman sculpture now in the collection of the Louvre Museum. The print depicts Euterpe, the goddess of music, song and dance. Her name is derived from the Greek words eu and terp, meaning "giver of much delight." As evident in this engraving, Euterpes attribute is the double flute. Similar prints, from the same set, can be found in the
