It contains combustion pressure within each cylinder bore and seals the coolant and oil galleries that cross the head to block face. This is a multi layer gasket of the 3 hole thickness grade, measuring 1. 59mm. On the TDi engine the thickness grade is identified by the number of holes (notches) along the gasket edge
